Shorthanded safety

In what way is shorthanded sailing different to other sailing?

If you get an accident there is no one to take care of you.

So in everything you do, make sure your safe.

Safety will be a constant part of this handbook but lets list the basics here:

  • Stay on board.
  • Look and plan ahead
  • Take care of your self. Eat and drink properly
  • Keep the boat tidy
  • Make sure that you can take a nap in comfort
  • Outfit the boat so that all of this is easy
  • Make the need to be anywhere else besides the cockpit and the cabin as small as possible
  • Make everything that may need to be done outside of the cockpit easy
  • Then do the same for everything in the cockpit and the cabin
